Public utilities and marketing: how public libraries use marketing
French libraries are cultural public utilities. Therefore, they comply with laws and missions of the French public service. So at first sight, they do not have many relations with the business world, and with one of this object, the marketing. Even so, we observe that, on the one hand, public service borders are vague, and that, on the other hand, libraries, in France as well as abroad, do use the marketing. That’s what it’s all about: trying to show what the ideological issues of this parallel are, and how it’s possible.
