International Relations
International Relations Officer : Anne-Sophie Chazaud
Enssib has long been recognised abroad for its expertise in the specialist field of libraries and information science. It also has the additional virtue of directly addressing an audience of library professionals and teacher-researchers specialising in information.
A further distinctive feature is enssib's Masters courses for students and civil servants.
Its plan for the period 2007–2010 stresses the structuring and redefining of its avenues of international activity.
In this context an enssib priority is the encouragement and facilitation of international mobility, together with the enhancement of its European partnerships.
-
Encouraging international mobility
- Encouragement of student mobility on a internship or semester basis in similar establishments, in partnership with the Rhône-Alpes Region via Explora Sup grants for Masters students; and via partnerships with libraries abroad for internships (1–3 months) for students taking library director and librarian courses.
-
More places for foreign students
As part of its Masters in Information and Library Science and in Written and Visual Culture, each year enssib admits appropriately qualified foreign students. The number of such students should increase with the creation of Erasmus partnerships with a number of similar establishments and the launching of the Masters in Books and Knowledge in conjunction with the ENS-LSH. These masters accept equivalences in the form of ECTS credits. - Encouragement of teacher mobility and participation of research teams in international colloquia.
-
More places for teacher-researchers and professionals from abroad
These places are for different periods and have varying scope. Enssib's international reputation means that colleagues from other countries often just "drop in" or attend working meetings on enssib's areas of excellence. Enssib is currently enhancing two other kinds of visits for experts and teacher-researchers (especially from Europe) as a means of reinforcing the international and comparative aspects of its teaching :- short term stays for attending talks or classes
-
since 2007, invitations to guest professors to stay for several months.
-
Enhancing European partnerships
This aspect of enssib's international outreach involves :
- Erasmus partnerships with similar establishments. In 2007 enssib was awarded the Extended Erasmus Charter
- Membership of such specialist associations in its field as the Euclid-European Association for Library and Information Education and Research, and the discussions and colloquia they organise : the Bobcatsss Congress for students, deliberations on a European study programme, the Eblida/Euclid Congress, etc.
In addition, Enssib's international Relations Section provides support for students and teaching staff undertaking international projects.
