La collection Rondel est un ensemble de plus de 300 000 documents sur les arts du spectacle donné à l’Etat en 1920 par un homme d’affaire fortuné et passionné de théâtre : Auguste Rondel (1958-1934). La collection est désormais le noyau du département des Arts du spectacle de la Bibliothèque nationale de France, créé en 1976. Cette étude retrace l’histoire de cette collection fondatrice au sein de l’institution, pour en dégager l’importance, retrouver son unité - dissimulée par la diversité des instruments de recherche qui la décrivent - et proposer des pistes de valorisation.

Rondel’s Collection gathers more than 300 000 documents on performing arts gift to the Government in 1920 by a fortuned business man and passioned of theater, Auguste Rondel (1958-1934). The Collection became the centrepiece of the Performing Arts Departements of the National Library of France, created in 1976. The goal of this study is to relate the story of this major collection in the heart of the institution, and to show how essential it is. It gives us also the opportunity to have a global vision on the ressearch instruments that enable to explore it and to propose leads to bring this collection out to the light.
