Son rôle dans la création d'une bibliothèque numérique pour l'Europe

- Résumé en allemand : Im Mai 1997 konnte der Neubau der Deutschen Bibliothek in Frankfurt a.M. eingeweiht werden. Er bietet Platz für 18 Millionen Bände. Zum Sammelauftrag gehören Druckmedien und digitale Publikationen. Die Deutsche Bibliothek verfügt über einen vollständigen Online-Katalog, über ein Multimedia-Bereitstellungssystem und sie ist Anbieter und Vermittler im Internet. Als nationalbibliographisches Zentrum vertreibt sie jährlich ca. 15 Millionen Buchdatensätze online und offline. Sie ist engagiert beim Aufbau einer lesitungs- fähigen Europäischen Bibliotheksvernetzung, u. a. Schaffung einer virtuellen Europäischen Bibliothel, Aufbau einer digitalen Depotbibliothek zur langfristigen Archivierung digitaler Publikationen und Festlegung von Erschließungskonventionen bei Netzpublikationen. Sie entwickelte ein Gateway über offene Kommunikationsschnittstellen, die es erlauben, ohne Veränderung in der Suchsprache, in unterschiedlichen Systemen der Bibliothek, der Fachinformation grenzüberschreitend zu arbeiten. Mit diesem Konzept wirkt sie integrativ in Deutschland und ist gleichzeitig ein leistungsfähiger Partner bei internationalen kooperativen Projekten.
- Résumé en anglais : It was in May 1997 that the new building of the Deutsche Bibliothek was inaugurated at Frankfurt/Main. This library, whose mission is to gather printed matter and digital documents, offers an on-line catalogue on a multimedia system and communicates with the outside world by Internet. As a centre for national bibliography, it produces around fifteen million notices per year, both on- and off-line. It comprises a part of a network of European national libraries, which would like to promote the creation of a European virtual library, the constitution of a library of deposit for digital documents and the definition of cataloguing norms for electronic documents. A means of access and a gateway have been put into service which work with other systems used by libraries and research information centres without changing the research language. This programme permits the library to play an integrating role in Germany and to be an effective partner in projects requiring international cooperation.
- Résumé : C'est en mai 1997 qu'a été inauguré le nouveau bâtiment de la Deutsche Bibliothek, à Francfort-sur-le-Main, qui a pour mission de rassembler imprimés et documents numériques. Cette bibliothèque dispose d'un catalogue en ligne, d'un système multimédia et communique avec le monde extérieur par Internet. Comme centre de la bibliographie nationale, elle produit par an environ quinze millions de notices on-line et off-line. Elle fait partie d'un réseau de bibliothèques nationales européennes, qui souhaitent promouvoir la création d'une bibliothèque virtuelle européenne, la constitution d'une bibliothèque de dépôt des documents numériques et la définition de normes de catalogage matières pour les documents électroniques. Un accès et une passerelle ont été mis au point qui permettent de travailler avec d'autres systèmes utilisés par les bibliothèques et les centres d'information scientifique sans changer de langage de recherche. Ce programme lui permet à la fois de jouer un rôle d'intégration en Allemagne et d'être un partenaire efficace dans les projets de coopération internationale.
