Résumé en anglais :
This analysis uses the results of an enquiry held among public librarians working in 1983 and turns on the internal division of the profession. New links have emerged between the new mode of recruiting (increasing since the years 60, infusion of young blood into the staff, raising of the education standard, variety of the social social background), the increasing range of users, and the development of the services. The main differences lie in the educational and cultural asset. While the " scholars' " approach to the knowledge is based on specialisation and traditional university values, the " consultants " find their legitimacy in new values (topicality, animation, innovation) and in a relation with the public.
