- Résumé en allemand : Die öffentlichen Büchereien werden heute konfrontiert mit breiten kulturellen und sozialen Bedürfnissen, die sie zur Entwicklung neuer Strategien verführen. Es handelt sich darum, soziologische Veränderungen zu betrachten sowie den Wandel, der die Wissensproduktions- und Aneignungsbedingungen betroffen hat. Der Aufsatz gibt Beispiele in der Region Rhône-Alpes und schlägt sich vor, die spezifischen Kraftlinien der Rolle der Bibliothek als öffentlicher Raum vorzulegen: Erinnerungsverpflichtung, Pluralismus, Wissensdemokratisierung, Weben der sozialen Bande, Zugriff zum Kunstverstand... Einer Zivilisationskrise gegenüber muß die Bibliothek auf eine Wertordnung bestehen, die unserer zeitgenössischen Welt eine Richtung geben mag.
- Résumé en anglais : Public libraries are in front of large cultural and social needs which urge them, at the moment of choices, on developing new strategies, taking in consideration the sociological changes and alterations of the conditions of production and appropriation of konwledge. Relying on examples taken in Rhône-Alpes, this article intends to recall the lines of cogency which are the proper character of the part of the library as a public space : duty of memory, plurality, democratization of knowledge, intermixture of the social bond, approach to creation... Coping with the crisis of civilization, it asserts values that aim at giving a meaning to the world where we live.
- Résumé : Les bibliothèques publiques sont confrontées à de vastes besoins culturels et sociaux qui les incitent à développer des stratégies nouvelles, qui prennent en compte les mutations sociologiques et les modifications des conditions de production et d'appropriation du savoir. S'appuyant sur des exemples pris en Rhône-Alpes, cet article se propose de revenir sur les lignes de force qui font la spécificité du rôle de la bibliothèque en tant qu'espace public : devoir de mémoire, pluralisme, démocratisation du savoir, tissage du lien social, accès à la création... Face à une crise de civilisation, elle affirme des valeurs qui visent à donner un sens au monde où nous vivons.
