In November 2008, the National library of Morocco, Bibliothèque nationale du Royaume du Maroc (BNRM), http://www.bnrm.ma , opened its new building, designed to offer a wide range of services to different publics. With its state-of-the-art multiscript library system, VIRTUA (VTLS Company), the BNRM uses UNIMARC for exchanging bibliographic and authority records, and as a working format for all types of resources in Arabic and Roman scripts. Existing ACCESS databases for books, serials and manuscripts were converted and loaded into the new catalogue. Retrospective conversion of the old card catalogue for books will be launched mid-2010.
UNIMARC is used as a working and exchange format by other Moroccan public, academic and specialized libraries. Two libraries using MARC21 format download UNIMARC records.
