Résumé en anglais :
The invention of writing changed humanity’s relationship with our own memory for all time. At the same time, access to this memory was determined by a social hierarchy structured along class lines. The content preciously recorded likewise reflected a reality that appeared inaccessible, just like the mysterious, impressive building housing it - the Library, which to the author as a young lad growing up in small-town France was a space in a realm of its own, in which he strove to experience the essence of an imaginary journey and a metaphor of the self.
