Dresse le bilan de la troisième étape de la reconstitution de la Bibliothèque de l'Université de Hambourg ; traite à la fois de l'adaptation des locaux principaux et annexes à leur nouvelle affectation, de leur équipement, des fonds (présentement 550.000 volumes contre 1.000.000 avant guerre), des nouvelles acquisitions, des échanges, du Dépôt légal. Un chapitre spécial, que complète fort opportunément un large schéma en fin de brochure, est réservé à l'articulation interne des services, aux catalogues, aux sections bibliographiques et photographiques, à la section médicale demeurée détachée auprès des cliniques universitaires, à la section musicale, comme aux fonds annexes.
La Bibliothèque universitaire de Hambourg comprend actuellement un personnel de 98 collaborateurs : 28 fonctionnaires, 57 employés, 13 ouvriers. Son budget global est passé de 873.900 D.M. en 1951/52 à 1.175.600 D.M. en 1953/54 (Acquisitions respectives 90.200 et 173.200).
A la Bibliothèque est annexée une école de « Diplombibliothekaren » destinée à pourvoir en collaborateurs techniques, outre Hambourg, les « Länder» de la Basse-Saxe, du Schleswig et Brème ; chaque cours (novembre à juin) compte de 15 à 18 inscrits.
Des plans et quelques reproductions photographiques complètent l'ensemble.
